When Chris May, the Managing Director of Northwest Surgeons, was on holiday with his wife, Chrissi in Bulgaria in October 2008 they found an abandoned dog in the middle of nowhere, tied up and left to starve to death with no chance to fend for himself. Rack thin, with sores on his skin and his collar cutting through his neck, the heavy snowfalls of winter were only a few weeks away. The dog’s tragic and untimely death seemed inevitable.
It was his lucky day though – after much wrangling with red tape and legal restrictions, Justin was rescued by Chrissi and Chris and is now living with his family in Cheshire and their three other dogs.
Justin is one of many dogs in Bulgaria and similar European countries where there are large populations of stray, abandoned and abused dogs. There are no national dog rescue charities like those in the UK that can help. That’s why Chrissi and Chris have set up Justin’s Trust for Dogs in Europe to help them. This UK registered charity already supports workers caring for stray dogs in Bulgaria and hopes to establish rescue centres in Bulgaria and other emerging European countries to offer a lifeline to the neediest dogs like Justin.
Northwest Surgeons is proud to support Justin’s Trust and donates £5,000 each year to help the work of the charity. We encourage our grateful pet owners to support this worthwhile charity too if they would like to show appreciation of the service they have received from our staff.
